As a freelance science communicator, creator, speaker and writer, my goal is open up the marvellous world of science to the general public. In order to spark the audience’s interest, I use playful, appealing formats. My aim is to stimulate thought processes and for people to actively get involved. For examples of my work, please also see my portfolio (in Dutch).

What I Can Do For You

  • Concept Development
Of events, presentations, exhibitions, books or any other formats that help you get in touch with your audience
  • Audience Interaction
Moderating conversations, (science) demonstrations, experiments, activities, etc. I ensure that the audience gets involved and will actively look for answers.
  • Workshops
Storytelling, playful and effective forms of science communication and the fascinating psychological principles that make our lives so fascinating and at the same time so irrational

I am very curious, and I always like to ask questions. I love to experiment and think in playful ways. I am convinced that more knowledge – of the world around us, and of each other – helps us to make life more fun.

After finishing my BA in Communication Management, I was interested in finding out more about the origins of science. It was then that I found out about the fairly unfamous yet superb MA Science and Technology Studies at the University of Amsterdam, which I completed in 2006.

I spent ten years working as a program developer at NEMO, the biggest Science Museum of the Netherlands, organizing exhibitions, workshops and various scientific demonstrations. During those ten years, I spent three months at the San Francisco Exploratorium in 2015, as a tinkerer in residence.

I still have not been able to decide my favorite ice cream flavor, but stroopwafel has very good odds. If you can guess my favorite color, you win a cup of coffee!

Also: if you were wondering what leuk kennis maken means, it’s sort of a play of words. In Dutch it means both “nice meeting you”, as well as “manufacturing knowledge in a fun way”. If you can come up with an appealing English equivalent, you win one hour of ideas – of any sorts – generated by me.
